Dimension: Motivational strategies
DefinitionThe third strategy area concerns not only motivation, but emotion as well. Learning motivation can be defined as motivation whose goal lies in learning itself or in its consequences. Learning emotions are emotions that are relevant for learning (Schiefele & Pekrun, 1996). Motivational strategies serve as a general prerequisite for initiating and sustaining learning processes. Motivation affects the intensity as well as the persistence and the learning strategies used in learning and thus also influences the learning outcome. They can be divided into five areas: increasing the task value, learning environment/environmental control, use of social resources, self-esteem stabilization, and volition/effort control.
