Dimension: Sequence numbers
DefinitionThe three types of strategies are coded as Cog (Cognitive), Mcog (Metacognitive), and Mot (Motivational). Each recorded strategy instruction is coded with the corresponding abbreviation and is also assigned a run number (e.g., Mcog1, Mot5, Cog13 etc.). The sequence numbers are usually consecutive, i.e., each coded strategy normally receives its 'own' sequence number. For example, if a planning strategy is coded with Mcog1, the next following metacognitive strategy is coded Mcog2. However, if the same planning strategy (Mcog1) is instructed again (e.g., because it is communicated to different students in individual conversations), it again receives the same sequence number (Mcog1). This is to allow differentiation between recurrent and 'new' strategies. -Each time a strategy instruction is given, it is also recoded (even within one minute). -The sequence number marks whether it is an already coded strategy or a 'new' strategy.

A blackboard image is created over 10 minutes and in this respect must be coded in every minute interval (Cog/Orga, always with the same sequence number).
A strategy instruction starts in min 01:50 and lasts up to min 2:15, so it must be coded with the same run number in both minute intervals.
Everyone take a very deep breath...and exhale very slowly through your nose.
(Mot; learning environment; Teacher wants to know what tools are needed for an experiment): 1. "And how do we know when 20 minutes are up?"; 2. "And where do we pour the water?"
(Mcog, monitoring (students are to check if picture on blackboard is complete): 1. "Do you still have a leaf from a tree that is not yet hanging here in front?"; 2. "Who still has a tree that they would like to have here in front?"; 3. "Do you know who I am still missing here? Which two?"
